"2013 Exhibition "
Soho Galleries Crown St. Sydney Australia

The more I paint, the further I seem to be from my destination.

Every time I complete a painting I think of two more.

Every time I complete a solo exhibition, I realize I have leant so much, that I want to turn around and start painting for my next exhibition.

It happens every time. I realize this would be the case in all forms of endeavor, but it amazes me the amount there is to learn, about painting a picture.
I must admit that I have known for some time, that if I was to feel I have learnt it all, or I have painted the best I can, then there would be no incentive to paint any more.
So although I want to paint my best picture, I never want to realize that I have.

I am not here to show how well I know language, nor am I here to argue the theory of painting, to become famous or make ridicules amounts of money. Not that I would reject these things.
I am here, simply to show where I am up to in my endeavors to paint my own masterpiece. It is my quest and I will do it the way I want, but I would love to share it with you.

One hell of a painter. Although you paint in a somewhat traditional way your portraits are singular, very unique. I love your images, a delight to look at. I bet the original works are stunning! I would definitely attend a show of your work. I am an artist who shows but I do not like to go to many shows. However, I would go see your work. I added you to my watch.

Thanks Eric. Well you are in luck, I have just booked my next exhibition in Soho Galleries Sydney Australia. The opening night will be on the 1st Oct 2016, next year so you will have plenty of time to get out here, it only takes about 30 hours or so.
Yes I like the old masters style of work but with todays subjects, skill is as important to me as subject but you are right traditional is not the  flavor of the month. Who cares, art is about what the artist wants, not what the teachers want.
Thanks for the Add.

I agree with your comment about skill. I paint in a unique way but I try to make my work well crafted whether I work traditionally or digitally. I come from a generation of artist and art training that focused on concept over technical skill and even looked down on someone's desire to make well crafted work. That has changed some what over the years so it is nice to see unique but skilled works. What draws me to art is something unique. That trumps skill and concept for me. I want to see something I have not seen before. You do that with a more traditional painting technique which I find wonderful. I want to see the artist passion and love for what they do regardless of what anyone else thinks. That is what draws me to art.

The funny thing about skill is, it comes whether we want it or not. If you do the same thing over and over then you will gain skill. So dose this mean your work deteriorates the longer you do it.
If the image is the all important factor of art, why should it matter how the image is made, photo, digital or painted.
An artist who paints because they love to paint, will not do well in uni. fine arts over here, more so if they have any sort of realism in their work. They push their own agenda down artists throats. In other words they try to break the artist and make them do as they are told.
This statement of yours 'I want to see the artist passion and love for what they do regardless of what anyone else thinks.' is precisely what an artist should do.

Hi Graeme,

Nice to see you are still around and posting.   I hope you are doing well. Your work changed a bit over last few years.

Hi Sandra, yeah still around although not a lot. Well enough but getting older.
Change just happens while you think you are doing the same thing.
